Implementing an effective energy savings strategy
Since 2020, the client has aimed to reduce its global
energy footprint by 100 terajoules by 2025, driven by the goal of reaching
net zero emissions, meeting the Paris Agreement, and responding to shareholder demands for lower energy consumption. As the client’s operations expand, energy consumption increases. To address this, 78 TJ must be saved in one of their locations alone. The client required a structured and effective approach to meet these ambitious targets, so they sought expertise to devise a viable energy-saving strategy.
Crafting an efficient energy reporting tool
Royal HaskoningDHV developed a detailed energy savings masterplan for the client’s site. The process started by identifying and prioritising the largest energy consumers to maximize the impact. Innovative energy-saving ideas were explored by thoroughly examining the client’s operations. An annual assessment was conducted with their team members to evaluate progress, adjust plans, and ensure the 100 TJ target remained achievable. Additionally, we developed a reporting tool to help managers efficiently track and report energy savings, while supporting sustainable project initiatives globally.
Advancing sustainability with an energy savings masterplan
The energy savings masterplan has significantly advanced the client’s sustainability goals. Annual updates provide a transparent view of the progress, aligning efforts across departments, including
CSRD compliance,
digital,
hydrogen, and
sustainable buildings. The masterplan not only facilitates energy savings but also contributes to the client’s larger objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Our reporting tool has become a critical asset, enabling managers to efficiently report energy savings. This comprehensive approach has proven successful and is now being implemented at the client’s sites in the USA as well.
