Umicore had set an ambitious target to achieve global net-zero emissions by 2035. However, the decarbonisation of energy-intensive processes and utilities was a challenge that required the implementation of CO2 neutral steam technologies at each site across the globe.
To provide Umicore with the necessary insights to achieve their decarbonisation goals, we used advanced decarbonisation business case tooling. Our in-house tooling enabled us to perform a detailed techno-economic feasibility study that explored how the net-zero CO2 steam technologies could meet the steam generation needs across Umicore's sites. This allowed us to quickly run multiple scenarios and options to determine the techno-economic performance of various steam technologies under market dynamics.
After the inventory and feasibility study of net-zero CO2 steam technologies was complete, Umicore had the necessary information to implement the most suitable technology at each site to decarbonise their steam generation needs. Our detailed inventory and feasibility study of net-zero CO2 steam technologies provided Umicore with accurate and reliable information on the best course of action to take in achieving their decarbonisation goals. By implementing these technologies, Umicore moved towards achieving their goal of global net-zero scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
