Royal HaskoningDHV prepared a report that analysed three possible berth locations. Plan view sketches (one for each location) including berthing structures and bed level contours were drawn and all three options were discussed, highlighting the following:
The report concluded that there were operational advantages in relocating the cruise berth closer to the shoreline but that the dredging requirements would come with significant construction costs.
The report was issued to the Port of Milford Haven and discussions took place on how to proceed with the development. Royal HaskoningDHV continued to support and give technical advice on options.
Following the completion and issuing of the final report, Milford Haven Port Authority invested in a Full Bridge Simulation suite. Once fully commissioned, it selected the Royal HaskoningDHV cruise berth schemes to analyse and tested the berth layout in the Simulation suite, with local pilots manoeuvring the cruise vessels on and off the berth.
