Enhancing LNG decision making with predictive simulation
Royal HaskoningDHV today announced that INPEX Masela, LTD. (INPEX) a subsidiary of INPEX Corporation, the leading global energy company, selected our Twinn Witness LNG Logistics Simulator for Indonesia’s Abadi LNG project.
Supporting Indonesia’s energy transition
LNG is a vital transitional energy source in Indonesia and the wider Asian market. The groundbreaking Abadi LNG project has a crucial role to play in this, as it will produce around 9.5 million tons of LNG annually for domestic and international customers.
Our LNG Logistics Simulator has been deployed to de-risk terminal operations and commercial strategies. The simulation tool is designed to identify potential risks, assess operational flexibilities and optimise future operations.
Demystifying LNG demand planning and logistics
For over two decades, Royal HaskoningDHV’s simulation experts (formerly part of Lanner) have helped LNG operators strike the right balance between operational flexibility and business risks. The LNG Logistics Simulator uses Witness predictive simulation technology to visualise complex LNG operations and supply chains in a virtual, risk-free environment. With global demand for LNG expected to evolve significantly over the coming decades, suppliers need the ability to stress-test choices and understand the technical and commercial implications of different development options, contractual commitments and process decisions prior to investment. This technology and expertise are also increasingly applied for new fuels like ammonia and liquid CO2 export projects.

Data-driven decision making
We are proud to support INPEX on this vital project that will ensure a reliable energy source for both domestic and overseas customers. Our LNG Logistics Simulator balances production, physical, and commercial interests in a single digital environment, providing comprehensive evaluations that help INPEX make informed, data-backed decisions quickly and confidently.
Briain O'DowdGlobal Director for Energy and New Fuels
Using the LNG Logistics Simulator, Royal HaskoningDHV’s simulation experts created a virtual model of the entire INPEX value chain –the onshore development scheme, terminal and shipping. Going beyond the constraints of scheduling tools and static analyses, the simulation enables INPEX to experiment with various production, storage and port options as well as multiple shipping strategies/market mixes. It considers potential risks relating to weather conditions, random equipment failure and scheduling fluctuations. In addition to helping INPEX understand storage, capacity and berth availability, the simulation is proving crucial in developing customer contracts, ensuring they incorporate sufficient flexibility for INPEX to fulfil commitments in the event of unexpected disruption.
