With the ambition to make a positive impact on the environment and local communities, Royal HaskoningDHV has partnered with MangLub to plant three hectares of mangroves in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.
MangLub is the Tra Vinh province’s first social enterprise with more than 20 years of experience delivering sustainable reforestation through innovative technology and nature-based solutions. Together, we are working with two local farmers to create the ideal ecosystem for traditional farming.
By planting approximately 6,700 Rhizophora Apiculata saplings, the mangroves will provide vital shelter for shrimps, fish, and crabs – as well as maintaining water and air quality through natural carbon sequestration.
Last Thursday, September 28th, marked the project’s formal launch as we began planting, symbolising a significant milestone in our journey with MangLub.
“Humanity relies on biodiversity, and without it, there is no clean air, water, food, or shelter,” says Justin Cross, Director Maritime Vietnam at Royal HaskoningDHV. “When we talk about enhancing society, we can’t just say it – we need to show it. And that’s exactly what this project does by driving positive change that has a real environmental impact.”
As we navigate the challenge of achieving net zero emissions, Royal HaskoningDHV has a real opportunity to make a positive impact by engaging with the community in meaningful ways and actively demonstrating our commitment to corporate social responsibility.
“We hope this is the start of a lasting relationship with MangLub as we look to plant many more hectares of mangroves,” says Justin. “This initiative also enjoys the backing of the entire organization, affirming our collective commitment to its success.”
By supporting the mangrove planting initiative, we can help offset our organisation’s carbon emissions. This initiative also aligns with our long-term commitment to sustainability, and offers a vital opportunity to drive positive change for farmers in Vietnam – and the environment at large.
