The Water Industry Awards (WIA) took place on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at The VOX Birmingham.
Celebrating the achievements of the UK water sector-H
This industry institution saw hundreds of water colleagues come together to celebrate the very best practice from the entire water sector, including the water companies and their partners. Royal HaskoningDHV was delighted to attend this prestigious event. 19 categories of awards were presented on the night with around 120 award submissions shortlisted. We were honoured to be involved in the projects of two of the shortlisted award entries on the night, in the Smart Water Networks and the Alliance or Partnership Initiative of the Year categories.

Smart Water Networks Award

We were part of the project team, along with Vodafone and Technolog, which worked with SES Water to enable it to become the first UK water company to have a fully intelligent network (iDMA). SES Water is now in the upper quartile for industry leakage levels and the benefits of an intelligent network will allow it to provide a more reliable, consistent and resilient supply for its customers and the environment. We provided our Twinn Aqua Suite software to revolutionise the way SES Water monitors, reacts to and carries out maintenance on its network. The AI powered predictive modelling capabilities of the software takes signals from the network sensors and, in near real-time, performs predictive analysis to compare expected with actual performance. Alerts are then raised to its24-hour control room so that the water company can investigate and solve issues as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.

Alliance or Partnership Initiative of the Year Award

Inverurie WWTP has proven to be one of our most efficient Nereda plants globally, with low power usage and waste sludge production, and no ferric dosing. The objective of the project was to optimise the performance of the overall site and eliminate the use of chemical dosing for P removal. The successful outcome was crucial for Scottish Water’s future sustainability and Net Zero strategy. The unified team reviewed process set points and site data and identified areas for improvement. We worked with Scottish Water, alongside the framework contract partner ESD and experienced Nereda delivery contractor, EPS on the Nereda project at Inverurie. Scottish Water’s operations team led the delivery of the improvement plan on the project, but the initiative was delivered through an integrated and collaborative approach, with a common objective. The partnership consisted of us as the technology provider, the Scottish Water project team including operations and technical support, and the EPS commissioning engineer.

We are committed to enhancing society together with our clients and our partners, and the achievements of SES Water and Scottish Water demonstrates our commitment to sustainable water and wastewater management and treatment
