More about Twinn and my role

“Twinn unites Royal HaskoningDHV’s broad offering of digital software and data solutions, from smart water technology to digital twins to global hazard intelligence. It enables customers to understand the impact of risks; predict future states; prevent disruptions to business; and optimise performance. Twinn brings together multiple well-known brands including Aquasuite, Ambiental and Lanner.

My role is to lead a team of Geographical Information System (GIS) specialists in building and maintaining market leading geospatial data products that support customers in making better decisions around physical and climate risk. The products we build in DataOps help customers understand their exposure to present day and future climate risks associated with several different perils.”

Broadening the scope of responsibilities

“Having worked almost exclusively in the field of flood hazard modelling and mapping in my first role, Royal HaskoningDHV provided me with the opportunity to broaden my focus to a range of other perils. One recent product involved working with colleagues from across the business to provide a comprehensive climate risk analysis for 17 different hazards, including river flooding, tropical cyclones and wildfires. The insights we provide help organisations understand the risk posed to them by multiple hazards and allow them to make decisions to prepare for the future.

By working alongside colleagues in different teams and visiting the headquarters in Amersfoort, I have been able to build a network of connections and now feel fully integrated into the Royal HaskoningDHV family. Having those connections makes it easier to reach out and collaborate, even in a remote environment.”

The nicest part of being part of Digital

“I think that the opportunities for knowledge sharing are really valuable at Royal HaskoningDHV. As part of the Digital Business Line, I get to work with people based in multiple countries with many different skills and backgrounds.

We also have Knowledge Hubs that bring people together from different teams with similar skills and specialisms. This is a great initiative that fosters a community spirit and facilitates problem-solving and the sharing of ideas and challenges across the wider organisation. The Hubs also contribute to the content of Learning Paths that enable colleagues to further develop their technical skills. Some of the Digital Hubs include Geo-ICT, Data Science, Data Engineering and Software Engineering.”

A dynamic and innovative environment

“In DataOps, we work with numerous large and complex datasets to develop solutions that provide valuable insights to our customers, often at property-level. We are continuously learning and developing methods to automate and improve the efficiency of our processes. In addition to high performance computing, we now also work in a cloud environment deploying virtual machines to create more capacity for modelling and data processing.”
